Installation
The following steps are required to install a custom firmware:
- Create a backup
- Prepare the installation
- Download a compatible firmware
- Verify the integrity of the firmware
- Install the firmware by using the web interface
Create a backup
It's necessary to create a backup of all data. Operating System upgrades are always dangerous. You should also create a backup of the configuration by using the web interface (System → Firmware → Configuration Backup).
Prepare the installation
Disconnect all existing connections (FTP, SMB, …). Deactivate standby features to prevent the NAS system to going to sleep.
Download a compatible firmware
All firmwares are complete (no deltas) and independent of the installed firmware. A downgrade should be avoided. Install a new firmware with a version number which is equal or higher to the installed firmware version number.
Firmwares are only compatible to their corresponding NAS systems. For example are N1T1 firmwares (3603.484) incompatible to N2R1 firmwares (1.0.0 2569). Incompatible firmwares might brick the NAS.
The downloaded file has to use the file extension .bin.
Verify the integrity of the firmware
The integrity of the downloaded file should be verified. MD5 checksums are provided on the download page to verify the integrity.
Use programs like MD5 context menu (Windows) or md5sum (Linux) to calculate the MD5 checksum of the downloaded file.
> md5sum firmware_2557t_1_0_0.bin
1fe5b3cbe65889665f2f67372b93d026 firmware_2557t_1_0_0.bin
Install the firmware by using the web interface
Install the downloaded firmware by using the web interface (System → Firmware → Upgrade). “Tantalus' Firmwares” are always System Upgrades.

Discussion
Really awesome software - though I just updated the UI to the new version, disabling the option to use your software. When will you support the new UI?
Hi There;
I have a N2B1 LG NAS, and unfortunatelly it has the latest FW from LG the v2660.
Have you got plans to release a version for that LG FW version pls?
Thanks
